Music and Creative Technologies is an inclusive, student-centered course open to all experience levels, including students with no prior musical training. Students may participate using voice, traditional instruments, digital instruments, or creative technologies. The core principle of the course is helping each student identify, develop, and cultivate their personal relationship with music, whether through performance, songwriting, creation, production, listening, or analysis. Mobile, tablet, and computer applications are used to support musical growth, including tuners, metronomes, recording tools, notation software, sequencing platforms, MIDI interfaces, and full digital audio workstations. The course follows an instructor-supported heutagogical approach, emphasizing self-directed learning, creativity, and individual musical development. "A heutagogical approach is a self-determined learning framework where learners have full autonomy to decide what, how, and when they learn, shifting responsibility from teacher to student. Coined by Hase and Kenyon, it emphasizes building learner capacity, metacognition, and navigating complexity rather than just acquiring competence." (Blaschke, 2012)

The Modern Ensemble class is a meeting place for the musically inclined to get together with like-minded classmates, create/perform/respond to/ and connect with music in a flexible ensemble environment.

Participants can create repertoire, rehearse with various band configurations, perform at school events, and connect with their wellspring of musical innovation.

Orchestra is a course open to any student at Â鶹¹ÙÍø. The course is designed to meet the needs of beginning through advanced string players. Students will learn the fundamentals of music through performance and an engaging curriculum that includes solo, ensemble, and collaborative repertoire. Instruments taught in the orchestra are violin, viola, cello, and double bass (upon request: students are welcome to borrow one of Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s young professional string instruments).

Duration: 1 semester

This class is open to all piano students regardless of level or experience and focuses on piano basics, such as sight reading, theory, ear training, memorization, technique, and performance. Each student works individually and with others in playing duets and ensembles. Performance is encouraged for all students.
